League Notes

In Buffalo, James Fink notes the NHL during next month's Scouting Combine will bring its "NHL Centennial Fan Arena" to KeyBank Center and the "adjoining Tops Alumni Plaza on June 2 and June 3." The main attraction is a 53-foot-long museum truck "loaded with interactive digital displays and other league-related exhibits." The Buffalo appearance will be "tailored toward the Sabres and the team's history" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/18).

THE FRENCH CONNECTION
: In N.Y., Kevin Armstrong notes the French Tennis Federation is "helping to organize 'Roland-Garros in the City,' a weekend event centered around a full red clay court at the Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza in Battery Park City from June 9-11." There will be a live transmission of the men’s and women’s French Open semifinals and finals on a "big video screen in the Plaza" and it will be "free for all to watch." Visitors can also "partake in free classes on the court" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/18).

MAKING THE TURN: GOLF DIGEST's Brain Wacker noted Vijay Singh’s lawsuit against the PGA Tour, which has been in a N.Y. court for four years, "appears finally to be headed to trial." Judge Eileen Bransten on Monday "issued a decision favorable to Singh on motions that had been pending since last fall, denying in part the tour’s motion for summary judgment." Singh's suit "claims the tour was negligent in its handling of Singh’s anti-doping violation and breached its implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, which caused harm to the now 54-year-old Fijian’s reputation" (GOLFDIGEST.com, 5/16).
