MIKE KRZYZEWSKI was credited with almost $9M in total compensation from Duke in '15, including nearly $2.2M that had been "reported as deferred compensation." That put his net take for the year at nearly $6.8M, an amount that "likely would have made Krzyzewski the nation's most highly paid college basketball coach." Duke AD KEVIN WHITE was "credited with a little more than" $1.45M (USA TODAY, 5/16).

PAID TO GO AWAY: FAU football coach LANE KIFFIN was paid about $2.5M by USC, where he was the coach from '10-13, in salary and other benefits during FY '16. Falcons offensive coordinator STEVE SARKISIAN, who was USC coach from '14-15, also was paid $3.3M by the school, a figure that "appears to be pro-rated" based on his firing in October '15 (L.A. TIMES, 5/16).

NAMES: Cowboys RB DARREN MCFADDEN has filed a $15M lawsuit against Ameriprise Financial, "claiming the investment company kept quiet when it found out one of its financial advisers was looting his account." McFadden said that Ameriprise "launched an internal investigation of the broker's handling of his account" in January '10, but "failed to notify him of its concerns." He added that the company also "failed to alert him when it suspended the broker 10 months ago." Over an eight-year period, McFadden claims the broker "stole or lost" at least $15M (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 5/16)....Appaloosa Management Founder DAVID TEPPER, a Steelers investor, ranked among the top 10 highest-earning hedge fund managers in '16 with $700M (N.Y. TIMES, 5/16)....MLB Senior VP/Baseball Operations KIM NG was listed as one of Fast Company's "100 Most Creative People in Business" (FASTCOMPANY.com, 5/15)....Former MLBer ALEX RODRIGUEZ “will join the cast" of  ABC's "SHARK TANK" this fall (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/16)....Former FBI Dir JAMES COMEY on Sunday was spotted “hitting golf balls with his kids” at TPC Potomac in Maryland (POLITICO.com, 5/15)....WNBA Phoenix Mercury G DIANA TAURASI on Saturday married Mercury Dir of Player Development PENNY TAYLOR, who also formerly played for the team (AZCENTRAL.com, 5/14). 

IN MEMORY: Former NFL ref JERRY BERGMAN, who “officiated in four Super Bowls as a head linesman,” died yesterday after a long illness. Bergman was 87 and “suffered from dementia in recent years.” He had also served as Professional Football Referees Association Secretary-Treasurer. His sons, JEFF and JERRY, “currently work as head linesmen in the NFL” (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 5/16)....Former Flyers Player Personnel Dir MARCEL PELLETIER, who “played a key role” in helping build the ’74 and ’75 Stanley Cup winning teams, died Saturday at 89. He also worked in the Bruins front office (PHILLY.com, 5/15)....Former Univ. of Memphis AD and assistant football coach BOB PATTERSON died yesterday at the age of 84 (COMMERCIALAPPEAL.com, 5/15).
