San Diego State Signs Extension With Nike As Apparel Provider Through '23-24 Season

San Diego State Univ. has "re-upped with Nike as its apparel provider," according to Tod Leonard of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. SDSU AD John David Wicker said that the deal through the '23-24 season is "among the most extensive in scope for any Nike-supplied school among the Group of 5." Wicker said, "This shows that Nike believes in San Diego State and the success we’ve had. We’re a brand they want to be associated with.” Wicker added that Nike "doesn’t pay SDSU in the arrangement ... but provides all of the game and practice wear for athletes in the Aztecs’ 19 sports programs." That supply will be "expanded to include more gear in the new deal," with Nike to provide $1.2M worth of product each year, "thus saving the athletic budget the expense." Wicker said there were previously “carve outs” for some teams at SDSU that did not require them to wear Nike, but now all teams will sport the swoosh. Wicker: "You won’t see us going with five different helmets and 3,000 different uniform combinations. I’m more apt to believe in creating a consistent brand." Leonard notes this is the "third major contract accomplished by SDSU in four months." The school "entered an agreement in February with Fox Sports College Properties to manage its multimedia and sponsorship sales, and last week the school changed radio affiliates" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/16).
