Swofford Follows Skipper's Lead, Says ACC Network Not Impacted By ESPN Cuts

ACC Commissioner John Swofford on Thursday said that there are “no concerns" regarding whether the ACC Network will “move forward or its long-term viability” amid the recent cuts at ESPN, according to Brant Wilkerson-New of the Greensboro NEWS & RECORD. Reiterating what ESPN President John Skipper earlier this week stated in an internal memo, Swofford said, "It is 100 percent full speed ahead, without question." He added, "I saw somewhere some quote-unquote-experts brought up that with the recent layoffs and so forth at ESPN, they’re questioning whether that would go forward. As John Skipper said to me, ‘That has absolutely nothing to do with the ACC Network, we’re 100 percent committed to it.’” The ACC Network TV channel is set to launch in '19, and even with ESPN suffering from financial difficulties, Swofford said that the channel "would be an asset.” Swofford: “That’s a potential substantial revenue source for ESPN as well as the ACC, and there aren’t many new revenue sources out there for either of us, really. That partnership is something we’re committed to and something ESPN is committed to, for obvious reasons” (Greensboro NEWS & RECORD, 5/5).
