Gabby Douglas Releases Signature Barbie Doll; Aly Raisman Signs With Life Is Good

A Barbie depicting Gold Medal-winning U.S. gymnast Gabby Douglas went on sale yesterday, and Douglas "worked to make sure her signature Barbie looks like her," according to Rachel Axon of USA TODAY. Douglas was involved in "selecting the wardrobe, offering input on hair texture and making sure the doll is as flexible as the Olympic gold medalist." The Barbie "features a red, white and blue leotard." The Gabby Douglas Barbie is "part of the Shero collection, which highlights women who break boundaries." The release of the doll is the "latest post-Olympic venture for Douglas, who launched a line of lipsticks with Beauty Bakerie in March" (USATODAY.com, 5/1).

GOING FOR GOLD: The BOSTON GLOBE notes Gold Medal-winning U.S. gymnast Aly Raisman has signed a two-year partnership with Boston-based retail company Life Is Good, and she "played a key role in creating a line of T-shirts being launched this spring." The new Ally Tee Collection is "geared to girls and women and features three designs that emphasize kindness, authenticity, and courage." A spokesperson said that Raisman's parents wore Life is Good Americana clothing during the '16 Rio Games, and Raisman "approached the company after she learned more about its philosophy" (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/2).
