Beverly Hills Sports Council Looks To Invest In Sports/Entertainment With New Company

Beverly Hills Sports Council, a large MLB player representation firm, has launched a new parent company, BHSC Global, LLC, which will make acquisitions in the sports and entertainment space, with capital provided by a new, private investor. Under the new structure, MLB agent and agency partner Rick Thurman and veteran industry exec Rob Ponger will become co-CEOs of BHSC Global. Neither Thurman or Ponger would identify the investor or provide financial details of the capital investment. But both said under the new structure Thurman and Ponger would be the majority equity owners of BHSC Global. Danny Horwits, another MLB agent and longtime partner in the agency, will serve as BHSC Global president. BHSC Global is in talks about expanding into sports marketing, as well as other sports and could make an announcement about an acquisition or a key hire as early as next week, said Ponger, who worked in various exec positions at IMG 20 years and was briefly president of the former Stealth SME. The company is looking to expand into talent representation in other sports, as well as into other areas, including media, marketing, sponsorship sales and activation. Beverly Hills Sports Council was founded more than 30 years ago and represents about 150 minor and MLB players. Thurman said the agency has turned down many offers to be acquired over the years, and this new structure means BHSC will be the platform off of which to acquire other companies.
