D-backs Deciding On Whether To Build New Training Facility In Dominican Republic

The D-backs are still "deciding whether to build a new facility in the Dominican Republic or refurbish an existing one," according to Nick Piecoro of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall said that the team’s investment "could be in the range" of $7-10M. With international spending "fairly equal among the 30 teams" thanks to the latest CBA, the D-backs believe the "quality of their facility could prove to be a difference-maker in terms of attracting top talent." Hall said, "You either want to have the best education program and convince families you’re going to take care of the kids, and/or have, presentation-wise and living space-wise, the best facility. We’re underachieving at this point." The D-backs' facility is located in Boca Chica, D.R., but Hall said that the team "could stay there or look elsewhere." Hall said that he has had "conversations with other clubs about potentially partnering on a facility." Hall: "Detroit, Anaheim and Milwaukee are the ones that jump out. I’ve reached out and had some preliminary talks" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 4/5).
