Golden Knights' Foley Says Expansion Draft Likely To Be Nationally Televised On NBCSN

Golden Knights Owner Bill Foley said that the franchise's expansion draft picks will "likely be released in a combined nationally televised show that could be in the same location as the NHL Awards" in late June, according to Josh Cooper of YAHOO SPORTS. Foley: "We have 88 days until the expansion draft and to do our announcement, that’s going to be a gigantic event for us in Las Vegas at (T-Mobile Arena)." Foley said the draft will be on NBC Sports Network and Rogers. Foley "didn’t know with 100 percent certainty if both events would indeed take place in the same location but thought it would be neat if they occurred in T-Mobile Arena." The expansion picks will be "made public on June 21." Cooper noted most of Foley's time "revolves around planning for these three days, the PR element of the event and also how to give" GM George McPhee the "proper tools" to pick the right players. Meanwhile, with the Raiders coming to Las Vegas in '20, Foley stressed that the Golden Knights "have a different fanbase" than the NFL team, as well as a "different TV type deal and a different radio type deal." Foley: "Really our fanbase is completely different from an NFL fanbase." Foley pointed out that if by '20 Las Vegas "continues to grow at the rate of 50,000 people per-year ... that’s another 200,000 people." Foley: "There’s going to be plenty [of fans] for everybody." Foley also said the Golden Knights' jersey release is "now going into production." Foley: "We’re probably going to not release our jersey until the day of the expansion draft" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 3/28).
