Developer FivePoint Buys Naming Rights To Ducks' Great Park Ice Complex In Irvine

The main arena at the Ducks' ice complex at the Orange County Great Park will "bear the name" of developer FivePoint, according to Tomoya Shimura of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. The Irvine City Council on Tuesday "unanimously approved the Irvine Ice Foundation's proposal to name the 2,500-seat arena as FivePoint Arena at Great Ice Park." The foundation was "set up to oversee the rink's construction and management" and is "backed by Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli." FivePoint, developer of Great Park neighborhoods, will pay $2.18M to the foundation "over 10 1/2 years for the naming rights." Irvine and Ducks officials said that the complex will be the "largest of its kind, at least in California." Scheduled to open July '18, the Great Park Ice & Sports Complex will feature "four ice sheets, including the main arena" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 3/29). In California, Steve Fryer wrote the Ducks "sure do it right, fan experience-wise." They have an "entertaining team, nice arena and excellent personnel working at every tunnel, kiosk and everywhere else at Honda Center" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 3/29).
