Motus Global Technology To Help Baseball Factory Players Analyze Biomechanics

Motus was one of two wearables approved by the MLB this season to be worn in games. This image courtesy of Motus Global shows how it’s MotusPro system uses five blue sensors to record 39 sets of measurements ranging from shoulder rotation to hip speed to stride.

Baseball Factory, a company that specializes in the player development and college guidance of high school baseball players, has partnered with Motus Global on biomechanics for injury prevention and performance analysis.

Baseball Factory will use the motusTHROW device to capture player data for use in injury prevention and training. The data will impact how players use and train their throwing arms, providing them with analysis of the stress on their arm angle/slot, arm speed and shoulder rotation.

“At Baseball Factory, we feel it is extremely important to provide players with access to as much quality data as possible,” Jason Budden, SVP of Partnerships & Brand at Baseball Factory, said in a statement. “This partnership with Motus Global will help us to better educate our players on exactly how their throwing arm is performing.  This data and overall knowledge will be key in preventing injuries and pinpointing areas for improvement. The motusTHROW device will play an important role in training and injury prevention for our players.  We are very excited for the impact this partnership will have on our athletes.”

Players at all positions can use the motusTHROW device to gain understanding of their game, and there are additional features that specifically help pitchers.

Those features include bullpen mode, where pitchers can chart specific pitches and how well they hit their spots. Players are able to breakdown the speed on their fastball versus their change-up. They can review the stress being put on their arm based on different pitches, and their arm/angle shot on each pitch.

The motusTHROW also measures total throws and high effort throws. With an understanding of the impact of those high effort throws and the stress they put on a player’s arm, the device is able to provide suggested numbers for high effort throws each day.

“When we were approved as the first in-game technology by Major League Baseball, it was an exciting and important day for our Company,” Ben Hansen, VP & CTO of Motus, said in a statement. “That being said, the partnership with Baseball Factory may be just as important for the sport and our Company. To truly accomplish our goal of better understanding pitching workloads and injury factors, we need to monitor these athletes across their entire baseball career. Baseball Factory is providing a gateway to some of the most talented players in the country before they begin their college careers.”
