Redskins Propose Rule Allowing NFL Teams To Opt Out Of "TNF" Color Rush Uniforms

Among the NFL rule proposals announced Thursday  for the '17 season, one by Redskins Owner Dan Snyder "would change league bylaws to allow teams to opt out of the Color Rush uniforms," according to Michael David Smith of PRO FOOTBALL TALK. The Redskins did not play a "Thursday Night Football" game last season, which means the team did "not wear a 'Color Rush' uniform," and Snyder would "like to keep it that way." Under current rules, teams playing on the "TNF" games "have to wear the uniforms." The Redskins "didn’t have to because its only Thursday game was on Thanksgiving afternoon," and those Thursday games do no count as part of the "TNF" package. In general, the league "doesn’t like to allow teams to opt out of league-wide endeavors like 'Color Rush,' so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Snyder’s fellow owners vote down his idea" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 3/23). In DC, Nora Princiotti writes the color rush unis are "frequently mocked as a silly ploy designed to move merchandise." A few of them are "rather, well, garish." The Redskins’ color rush jerseys are "very, very yellow" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 3/24).
