MLB Facility Notes: Cubs Say Most Recent Renovations To Wrigley Field On Schedule

In Chicago, Chris De Luca reports the Cubs are "keeping a tight lid on what’s happening during the latest rounds of renovation" at Wrigley Field. Cubs VP/Communications & Community Affairs Julian Green said, "Construction is on schedule and current work in the ballpark includes completing structural assets, field surface, relocated bullpens, restroom facilities and grand stand seating." Green added that more detailed updates are "expected in the next couple of weeks" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/21).

UP AROUND THE BEND: In Atlanta, Ben Brasch reports five local businesses yesterday were "approved to offer up" their total 1,050 parking spots around SunTrust Park. That number adds to the already 14,000 parking spots at the Braves' new ballpark (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 3/21). Also in Atlanta, Doug Turnbull wrote the prospect of the horrible traffic to and from SunTrust Park in the Cobb Galleria/Cumberland area has "hung over the heads of commuters for the three and a half years since the Braves announced moving there." However, the traffic plans put in place should "soften some of the blow" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 3/20).

FOR YOUR SAFETY: In Pittsburgh, Stephen Nesbitt reports the Pirates are "installing new protective netting that extends to the end of the dugouts at PNC Park." The Pirates "explained that by extending the netting system they will be 'providing protection in those areas where the reaction time for objects that enter the seating area is the shortest.'" The team said that the new netting will be the "same height as the previous system." It also is a "knotless and more transparent material with fewer vertical cables than the previous net" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 3/21).
