Media Notes

In DC, Scott Allen notes MASN's Dan Kolko will host a Nationals podcast from the "studio being constructed" in ESPN's Tony Kornheiser's new bar and restaurant. The podcast, which will be called "Between Innings, with Dan Kolko" is "tentatively scheduled to debut in April, pending completion of the studio." MASN producer John Harvey will "produce the podcast and serve as a co-host of sorts alongside Kolko." At the outset, Kolko is "hoping to produce one or two podcasts per homestand around lunchtime" (WASHINGTON POST, 3/9).

DUAL COVERAGE
: NHL Exec VP & Chief Content Officer Steve Mayer said that the league will look to "televise both" the NHL Awards and the "announcement of the expansion roster" of the Golden Knights around the same time frame in Las Vegas. YAHOO SPORTS' Josh Cooper noted it is "currently unclear which television partner the NHL will use for the expansion draft." The league also "could not give a definitive location on where in Las Vegas the announcement of players picked by the Golden Knights will take place" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 3/8).

THERE'S ONE RULE: TNT's Chris Webber said that he has "one rule of broadcasting: Don't attack a player's character." Webber: "I'll never talk about a guy's character, because I don't know the guy." When it comes to his basketball-related criticisms, though, Webber said that he "doesn't care if players take issue with his opinions, because he's been in their shoes." Webber: "Guys have called me after games and said, 'I think that was unfair or I think it was fair,' and we've talked it out and we've always had a good ending" (USA TODAY, 3/9).

SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT: ESPN’s upcoming documentary "Mike and the Mad Dog" will "make its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival next month." The 60-minute "30 for 30" installment will be shown on April 21 at the 11th annual festival. ESPN producer and director Andy Billman said that the documentary will cover the careers of both men while also "shedding a little more light on who the larger-than-life personalities are as people" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/9).
