SNY on Saturday night will debut a new studio facility and headquarters, shifting to a new location in Lower Manhattan after 11 years in Midtown. The space, totaling more than 38,000 square feet on two floors at 4 World Trade Center, contains more than twice as much production area as its prior location at 1271 Avenue of the Americas, formerly known as the Time-Life Building. The new space is the result of a roughly three-year development effort costing an undisclosed eight-figure sum and involving production and design assistance from Jack Morton Worldwide and Mystic Scenic Studios, which have both worked with ESPN and CBS Sports, among others. “This is really SNY 2.0,” said network President Steve Raab. “We actually outgrew our other space in year 2 and still stayed 11 years. So it’s been a long road. But this now affords us a tremendous amount of flexibility and room to innovate technologically.” The new space contains three separate studios. One is named Studio 41 for HOFer Tom Seaver and inspired by Citi Field. That will be the primary area for Mets-related studio programming. Studio 31 is named for HOFer Mike Piazza and will be geared toward SNY’s other news and entertainment programming. Studio 42 is named for HOFer Jackie Robinson and is primarily designed for sweeping overhead views of Brooklyn and the East River. MLB and MLBAM plan to relocate into SNY’s prior building in ’19.
