Media Notes

In S.F., Benny Evangelista notes Sling TV “will stream” CSN Bay Area (Giants) and CSN California (A's) “just in time” for the '17 MLB season. The RSNs “will be included with Sling Blue, a tier of service with more channels than Sling TV’s basic $20 per-month service” (S.F. CHRONICLE, 3/3). The Northern California-based RSNs also are home to the NBA Kings, Sharks, Warriors and Earthquakes (THE DAILY).

BACK ON THE BEAT: FS San Diego Padres reporter Bob Scanlan, a former team multimedia analyst, said of his new role, “I’m thrilled about it. I’m excited to be talking Padres baseball again, I’m excited to be around the team on a daily basis again, and it’s going to be fun to be doing the television side of things.” In San Diego, Dennis Lin notes Scanlan, a former MLBer, “replaces Julie Alexandria, who is now pursuing other opportunities.” Scanlan is “scheduled to broadcast a majority” of the Padres’ games in '17 (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 3/3).

RADIO WAVES: In Atlanta, Doug Roberson cited a source as saying that Atlanta United and WZGC-FM are “working on an agreement to make the radio station the flagship partner of the MLS expansion team.” WZGC already partners with the Falcons, which are also owned by Arthur Blank (AJC.com, 3/2). Meanwhile, fellow expansion club Minnesota United has partnered with KMSP-Fox and ESPN Radio 1500 Twin Cities for TV and radio coverage, respectively, during the ’17 season (Minnesota United).
