IOC Global TV Rights For '14, '16 Games Generated 7% More Than Previous Four Years

The IOC generated $4.1B off global broadcast rights to the Sochi and Rio Olympics, up 7.1% over the quadrennial ending with the '12 London Games, according to new projections released today. Meanwhile, the IOC’s global sponsorship program (The TOP Program) generated $1.02B, up 7.6% over the recession-plagued prior period. Bridgestone was the only new corporate partner in the period, though its rights were limited to four countries until '17. Overall, the broadcast revenue comprises about three-quarters of all IOC revenue, with the marketing program kicking in another 18%. Today’s figures were published in the official marketing report of the Rio Games, which is predominately a qualitative recounting of sponsorship activity in Rio and does not include detailed, audited financials. Those will be published in an annual report later this year.
