The Night's Watch: MLB Inks Promotional Deal With HBO Around “Game Of Thrones"

MLB has struck a cross-promotional partnership with HBO that will bring a series of “Game Of Thrones” theme nights to MLB ballparks this season. The deal also calls for co-branded licensed merchandise, giveaways, special ticket offers and other “Game Of Thrones”-themed collaborations. Nineteen MLB clubs are confirmed participants in the effort, with others expected to sign on as well. The deal ties in to the upcoming seventh season of “Game Of Thrones,” set to debut this summer. HBO holds an existing relationship with the league, as MLB’s BAMTech supports the HBO Now streaming service. MLB in recent years has struck other similar partnerships with entertainment programmers, including one with Nickelodeon in ’15. The “Game Of Thrones” effort aligns baseball with one of the most popular franchises in all of pop culture, and one with significant draws among millennial audiences.
