NFL Panthers President Morrison Abruptly Resigns To Pursue Job In College Space

NFL Panthers President Danny Morrison "has resigned his post to pursue interests at the college level," according to Joseph Person of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. Morrison was AD at TCU before joining the Panthers in '09 and also was a "one-time Southern Conference commissioner." Morrison took over after Panthers Owner Jerry Richardson’s sons, including former team president Mark Richardson, "abruptly resigned" two weeks before the '09 opener. Morrison’s responsibilities were "more related to the business side of the organization rather than football operations." His resignation "caught Panthers officials -- and people outside the organization -- by surprise." Morrison said that he has been "thinking about stepping down for a while." With the league year beginning next month, he "thought the timing was good to move on." The Panthers did "not announce a replacement for Morrison, who was instrumental in the renovations at Bank of America Stadium and played a pivotal role in improving the Panthers’ training camp facilities at Wofford" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 2/10). Morrison said, "I had a wonderful run with the Panthers. I learned a lot. But the timing was right (to leave) at this point in the NFL calendar year" (AP, 2/9).
