Texans' NFL-Licensed Restaurant Closes Amid Struggling Sales, Failure To Pay Rent

After five years of operation, the Houston Texans Grille "shut its doors for good" on Tuesday, according to Darla Guillen of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. The establishment was "licensed with the NFL," allowing it to use the official Texans logo. It was "part of the G3 G.R.E.A.T. Grille Group, which operates several similar concepts all around the U.S." (CHRON.com, 2/9). THESPORTSFOODIE.com cited sources as saying that the restaurant "shut down after five years amid struggling sales and the inability to pay rent." It had "opened to much fanfare" in '11. Located in "one of Houston’s premier shopping centers, the 13,000 square foot behemoth of a restaurant was nestled on the back side of the complex which resulted in little foot traffic throughout the day." For a while, the restaurant was "usually only full during the 16 NFL games per year, but little by little fans stopped coming to the restaurant even for those." This is the "second blow in recent weeks for the G.R.E.A.T. Grille Group." Hail & Hog, the official Redskins restaurant, also part of G3 Restaurants, "filed for bankruptcy in January only nine months after opening" (THESPORTSFOODIE.com, 2/8).
