The Twins named Phillies President ANDY MACPHAIL and former MLBer MICHAEL CUDDYER to the team's HOF. The pair will be inducted in August at Target Field. MacPhail is the first GM to be chosen for the Twins HOF. Meanwhile, Cuddyer recently joined several former Twins players to be hired by the team to serve as a special assistant to the front office (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 1/28). The Twins also will construct a statue of former manager TOM KELLY in the plaza at Target Field. Kelly managed the Twins from '86-'01 (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 1/29).

SEE YOU IN COURT: The Univ. of Missouri has "retained the services" of Kansas-based law firm Bond, Schoeneck & King Managing Member MIKE GLAZIER to "assist with its ongoing investigation into allegations of academic fraud brought by a former tutor in the Total Person Program" (K.C. STAR, 1/29)....A lawsuit filed against Baylor Univ. by a former female student on Friday "alleges that the football program fostered a culture in which alcohol and illegal drugs were provided to recruits, and that coaches encouraged female students in the Baylor Bruins hostess program to have sex with recruits and players." The Title IX lawsuit, filed by a former member of the Bruins, was the "second such lawsuit filed against Baylor" last week (ESPN.com, 1/27).

WEDDING BELLS: NASCAR driver KURT BUSCH's recent marriage to polo player ASHLEY VAN METRE was highlighted in the N.Y. TIMES' "Weddings" section. On Jan. 7, the couple "married at sunset just steps from St. Jean Bay at the Eden Rock hotel in St. Barts before 30 close friends and relatives." Van Metre is "represented by both Wilhelmina Models and Locke Management" (N.Y. TIMES, 1/29).

WORD OF ADVICE: Former NBAer ANTOINE WALKER this weekend spent time at the Senior Bowl as a consultant for Morgan Stanley Global Sports & Entertainment. Walker, who "famously squandered" $108M in career earnings, spoke with 100 players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft. Walker: "I told myself that I want to make a difference. I want my story to be a learning tool. I try to be open and candid, share with them the good, the bad, and the ugly of everything that went on with me, and I hope that they can take that and put that to some of their situations" (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/29).

NAMESPEYTON MANNING on Friday "spoke at the GOP retreat in Philadelphia," and attended Saturday's Alfalfa Dinner as the guest of U.S. Sen. BOB CORKER (R-Tenn.). IN MEMORY: Longtime N.Y. Marathon Dir ALLAN STEINFELD died on Tuesday in Allentown, Pa., at the age of 70. The cause was a “multiple system atrophy, a neurological disease.” Steinfeld used his “scientific background to modernize the technical operations” of the Marathon. He found ways to “improve the management of the start and finish lines, as well as to record results and register participants online” (N.Y. TIMES, 1/30).
