PGA Tour Commissioner JAY MONAHAN announced that more than $166M last year was "raised for charity through tournaments on the PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions, Web.com Tour and the international tours in China, Canada and Latin America." The amount "brings the total of charitable giving through the Tour" to $2.46B since the "first recorded instance of an event raising money for charity" in '38 (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 1/26).

OVER THE LIMIT: Golden Boy Promotions co-Founder & President OSCAR DE LA HOYA early Tuesday morning was "arrested by the California Highway Patrol and charged with two misdemeanors: driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater" (USA TODAY, 1/26). De La Hoya was scheduled to appear at a news conference in L.A. yesterday afternoon to "promote Golden Boy's HBO-televised fight card on Saturday night," but was "a no-show" (ESPN.com, 1/25). This would be at least De La Hoya’s "third issue with substance abuse." He checked himself into rehab in '11, saying that he "had issues with cocaine and alcohol." He also "checked into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center" in '13 (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 1/25).

MAN OF MANY TALENTS: Heat F UDONIS HASLEM's Miami-area business ventures are "already thriving and growing." Haslem said that he has "majority ownership in five Subway franchises and two Auntie Anne’s Pretzels franchises in Miami-Dade and Broward counties." He also is a "partner in JFC Miami Management Holdings, where he is a co-licensed operator of an Einstein Bros. Bagels and a 24-hour Starbucks at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital with one more of each on the horizon." He also has some pizza franchises in the works that he "plans to bring to Miami soon" (THEUNDEFEATED.com, 1/25). 

NAMES: Pro Football HOFer EMMITT SMITH yesterday appeared on CNBC to promote his company, The Gent's Place, a "high-end luxury grooming spot for men to come in and get their hair cut, get straight edge razors," shoe shines and other salon services in and around Dallas. Smith: "It's really one of the fastest-growing segments in the beauty (industry)." Smith said, "We're looking to do about 150 locations around the country" ("Squawk Box," CNBC, 1/25)....Recently retired NASCAR driver CARL EDWARDS could challenge U.S. Sen. CLAIRE MCCASKILL (D-Mo.) in her bid for re-election next year. In a text message, Edwards wrote, “If I could help, I definitely would consider it” (AP, 1/25)....UFC fighter RONDA ROUSEY and amateur MMA fighter PAULINE MACIAS recently “took a trip to Standing Rock to help protesters at the Dakota Access Pipeline” (N.Y DAILY NEWS, 1/26).
