FS Detroit's Tigers Booth Gets Shakeup, With Analyst Jack Morris Not Returning In '17

FS Detroit's broadcast team for Tigers games will "experience more change" in '17, as analyst Jack Morris "will not" return to the booth, according to a source cited by Tony Paul of the DETROIT NEWS. Kirk Gibson and Rod Allen "will return as rotating analysts." Morris had "split time" between Tigers games on FS Detroit and Twins games on FS North the last two seasons. Morris will work "exclusively" with FS North this season, "serving as one of five rotating analysts for Twins games," along with Bert Blyleven, Torii Hunter, LaTroy Hawkins and Roy Smalley. Meanwhile, Gibson "returns for a third season" and will call "about 60 games." Allen is "expected to do the rest, his largest workload in the booth" since '14. This will be his 15th season calling Tigers games on TV (DETROIT NEWS, 1/26). FS Detroit Senior VP & GM Greg Hammaren said that Morris "made the decision." Hammaren: "It was hard on (Morris), on his travel schedule. It didn’t allow for him to be as integrated as possible as both sides would have liked." In Detroit, Kirkland Crawford notes FS Detroit's Craig Monroe, who primarily serves as an analyst on the RSN's pre- and postgame shows, will "continue on 'Tigers Live' and occasionally will be featured as an on-field analyst in the home dugout at Comerica Park." Monroe also "got a couple of shots in the booth" during games last season. Meanwhile, Hammaren "admitted that the moving parts last season weren't received well" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 1/26).
