League Notes

The AP's Doug Ferguson noted the players on the PGA Tour Policy Board have "selected Roberto Castro, Matt Kuchar and Johnson Wagner to run for chairman of the Players Advisory Council." The election ends Feb. 17, and whoever is elected will "serve a three-year term" starting in '18. The selection of three players "keeps one streak going -- an international player has never been voted" PAC Chair (AP, 1/24).

CAN'T MORTGAGE THE FUTURE: ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert noted the NFL "extended 125 invitations to fill 88 player spots in this weekend's Pro Bowl, an improvement from 133 last year but still the second-highest total in game history." The NFL has "struggled in recent seasons to attract top players to its annual postseason showcase." Among other explanations, players have cited the "health concerns of playing in a meaningless game." Ten players between the Patriots and Falcons declined invitations due to the Super Bowl, and only 57% of the "players on the original roster will be in uniform." That includes "just one of the six" QBs initially selected -- the Cowboys' Dak Prescott (ESPN.com, 1/24).

BO KNOWS BASEBALL: In DC, Thom Loverro wrote MLB should enlist Bo Jackson to "tell the next generation of Bo Jacksons what he knows now." That message would primarily be that he "should not have played NFL football" and "should have just committed himself" to MLB. There is not a "better symbol of the differences between the two sports" than Jackson (WASHINGTON TIMES, 1/23).
