ESPN Tops December ComScore Rankings, But Many Figures Down With End Of NFL Season

ESPN in December led comScore multiplatform digital rankings for sports for the fourth consecutive month, and for the 33rd time in the last 34 months. But many of its figures were down from November as the category again entered one of the slower parts of the year with the end of the ’16 NFL and college football regular seasons and fantasy football season. ESPN’s reach total of 85.5 million unique visitors was down sharply from its total of 101.8 million uniques in November and its lowest such figure since August, and its 8.1 billion minutes of total consumption fell from 9.3 billion the prior month. Its average of 95.1 minutes per user, conversely, did rise somewhat and also led the category. The newly merged entity of Fox Sports-SI Group-Perform Media, meanwhile, posted its best ranking yet, finishing second in unique users and breaking a three-month run for CBS Sports in the runner-up slot.
