Going Off The Grid: Execs Predict Twitter-NFL Future, List Favorite Music Videos

"Going Off The Grid" is a weekly survey of sports execs and personalities offering their thoughts on a handful of pressing (and trivial) issues in sports and pop culture. This week, our panelists predict whether the NFL will live-stream games on Twitter next season, their favorite music video and what they are keeping an eye on for in '17.

  • Anheuser-Busch Dir of NFL Partnerships & Strategy Anna Rogers
    – Judges every stadium by the chicken fingers they serve.
  • NLL CMO Ashley Dabb
    – The new NBA CBA is the same as "rooting for the home team."
  • CSN Chicago VP & GM Phil Bedella
    – Sees MLB's deal with Under Armour as a "big win for MLB -- they get the promotional and marketing strength" of UA.
  • Columbus Dispatch Blue Jackets beat writer Aaron Portzline
    – Is in favor of medical marijuana use by athletes if it is truly medicinal.
  • Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage
    – Understanding the changing viewing platforms of the fans is the biggest sports business issue heading into the year.

Going Off The Grid

live-streams?
Favorite music video? Biggest untapped market in sports?

What are you keeping
an eye on in '17?

Thoughts on sports being played in other sports venues

Rogers

I hope so -- but I’m not betting on it.

Bonnie Tyler’s "Total Eclipse of the Heart."

The millions of people who would love golf, but just don’t know it yet. Not being swept up in trends that aren’t moving our business forward.

I’m a believer. But let’s keep basketball games inside basketball  venues.

Dabb
Yes Michael Jackson’s "Thriller." Las Vegas

Augmented and virtual reality technology

Unique and memorable

Bedella
The NFL will continue to experiment with social media platforms.

A-Ha with “Take On Me."

The emergence of e-sports among younger fans is an area of growth.

The emergence of new content providers.

Terrific way to showcase a sport to the casual or semi-casual fan.

Portzline
First year went well. Why not marry?

OK Go's "Here We Go Again."

Mexico City Our democracy, and
the media's role in it.
Love it. And it's time for Ohio Stadium to host a certain NHL team.

Gossage

Hopefully, but I’m not sure that is the right platform for streaming games.

Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Cleveland would make a great place for an NFL franchise. Changing digital media platforms.
And costs. Always costs.

Love it. College football at Bristol Motor Speedway last year was truly spectacular.
