Health Tech Startup RightEye Partners With MLB, USA Baseball On Vision Screenings

RightEye LLC, a Maryland-based health tech startup, has signed a three-year partnership with MLB and USA Baseball to provide baseline performance vision screenings for every player entering the Prospect Development Pipeline, a newly created forum for high school-aged players to receive exposure to major league clubs. RightEye tracks more than 30 advanced vision performance measures, including reaction times to moving targets, color recognition and depth perception. The deal advances upon prior work RightEye has done with several sports-related clients, including six MLB teams and the IMG Academy. RightEye is also presenting its technology this week at CES in Las Vegas. “This is another tool that can help identify who are truly the elite athletes, and we are beginning to get enough data where we can really define what separates the elite prospects in terms of visual strength,” said RightEye CEO & co-Founder Adam Gross. MLB and USA Baseball last month announced plans for the Prospect Development Pipeline, providing a series of regional, invitation-only workouts and a national scout team championship event. The first such event will be Jan. 14 in Atlanta, and RightEye will be beginning screenings there. RightEye to date has raised $4M in angel-round venture capital funding, and is currently developing a Series A round to close later this year.
