RBC Doesn't Renew Jason Day Sponsorship As Result Of Golfer's Move To Nike Apparel

RBC "didn't renew its deal" with Jason Day after the top-ranked golfer signed an apparel deal with Nike, according to Bob Weeks of TSN.ca. Nike officially announced its sponsorship of Day on Sunday, and one of the company's stipulations with all its contracts is that "no other corporate logos appear on a player’s clothing." That meant that RBC, which as part of a "healthy arrangement with Day had a logo on his collar, had to move it elsewhere." The only option was "on his golf bag and the bank decided that the value wasn’t there." RBC's decision also means Day is "unlikely to tee it up" in the RBC Canadian Open. All RBC-sponsored players are "required to play" in the two events it backs: the Canadian Open and the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head (TSN.ca, 1/3).

GOING FOR THE GREEN: GOLFWEEK's David Dusek reported several notable players have "signed endorsement deals with Titleist and will start using the company’s products" this year. Sean O'Hair, Derek Fathauer and Jason Kokrak will be "full-line players, meaning they will use Titleist clubs, balls and bags, and wear FootJoy shoes." Russell Henley will "use Titleist clubs, balls and golf bags, but he will keep wearing Nike apparel and footwear." Nick Watney, Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace will be "using Titleist balls, along with FootJoy shoes and gloves" (GOLFWEEK.com, 1/3).
