TOM RENNEY is "stepping down" as President of Hockey Canada in a move he "hopes will make the organization more 'diverse.'" Hockey Canada COO SCOTT SMITH "will replace Renney" on July 1, while Renney will "remain as CEO and continue to lead and set the direction for the organization." Renney said that the move to promote Smith will "allow the organization to more effectively deliver on its mandate to grow the game within Canada, and abroad." Smith initially joined Hockey Canada in '95 and was named COO in '07 (CP, 12/29)....E-sports lawyer BRYCE BLUM is launching his own firm, founding ESG Law to focus exclusively on representing teams, talent and other institutions in the growing world of competitive video gaming. Blum had previously been practicing out of IME Law, the digital media firm he co-founded in April '15. In his career, Blum has worked with top-line e-sports teams including Team SoloMid, Team Liquid, Immortals, and Team EnVyUs, and also is general counsel at Unikrn, an e-sports betting house. He is also Exec VP/E-Sports at Catalyst Sports & Media (Ben Fischer, Staff Writer).......The MLL Atlanta Blaze named Hawks VP/Partnership Broadcasting JIM PFEIFER President (BIZJOURNALS.com, 12/29)....Asics America named construction company Meruelo Enterprises Senior Dir of HR BARBARA TURNER VP/HR and NBCUniversal division General Counsel LISA HATTON HARRINGTON to the same position (Asics).
