Jets coach Todd Bowles and GM Mike Maccagnan will "each return" for their third seasons in '17, but for Bowles, that "could be it unless he gets the Jets into the playoffs or at least keeps them relevant in December," according to Gary Myers of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. There could be a "drastic new look for the Jets next season and it starts" with Owner Woody Johnson. He is "not selling the team, but he may not be on this side of the Atlantic next season." Johnson did "not deny to friends recently that he’s under serious consideration by President-elect Donald Trump" to become the U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain. NFL ownership rules "don’t require Johnson to divest his interest in the team or change the way it operates, but the three-year appointment will require Johnson to live" in London. That would "take him away from the day-to-day operation of the Jets, and that responsibility would likely go to" team President Neil Glat, leaving him a "long-distance owner." That could "factor into why he elected to keep Bowles" as "stability and continuity will be even more important to Johnson if he’s attending to international business." The next three months "will be tumultuous" for the Jets, as Bowles is "expected to make several changes on his coaching staff" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/2). In N.Y., Zach Schonbrun writes Bowles and Maccagnan will have to "clean up a locker-room chemistry experiment that exploded as the pressure of losing intensified." The "problems apparently began" in a game against the Chiefs in September when "frustration after a bad loss boiled over into a verbal spat between" WR Brandon Marshall and DE Sheldon Richardson. CB Darrelle Revis said that the incident "cast a 'dark cloud' over the rest of the season" (N.Y. TIMES, 1/3).
