NBC Wraps Up Inaugural "TNF" Slate With Strong Overnight Rating For Giants-Eagles

NBC on Thursday night wrapped up its first year with part of the "TNF" package, drawing a 12.5 overnight rating alongside NFL Network for the Eagles' 24-19 win over the Giants. That figure marks a tie with CBS/NFL Net's Texans-Patriots on Sept. 22 for the second-best "TNF" overnight this season. Only NBC/NFL Net's Cowboys-Vikings on Dec. 1 drew a better figure (14.1 overnight). Giants-Eagles will deliver NBC a win in primetime among all nets. Philadelphia led all markets with a 28.9 local rating. Rounding out the top five markets were Norfolk (19.1), N.Y. (18.8), Dallas-Ft. Worth (18.1) and Richmond (16.9) (Austin Karp, Assistant Managing Editor).

BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES: In L.A., Tom Hoffarth reported while L.A.'s KCBS is "contractually bound to air Chargers games," the local CBS affiliate "will not carry" Chargers-Browns in the 1:00pm ET window as originally planned. A KCBS spokesperson confirmed that the channel has been "given permission by the NFL to not only drop the Chargers," but carry Colts-Raiders in the 4:05pm ET window. That telecast will go head-to-head with Rams-49ers as part of Fox' national window at 4:25pm ET. Hoffarth noted there have been "four instances this season where the Rams had TV competition on a Sunday." It happened "only when Fox could only show a single game, had to take the Rams, and CBS had the doubleheader rights and had to take the Chargers." The NFL granting the exception for the CBS affiliate shows the Raiders "continue to draw, and outdraw, the Rams on TV" in the L.A. market (INSIDESOCAL.com, 12/22).
