Fitting Tribute: Colorful Wardrobes Abound At Memorial Service For Craig Sager

CRAIG SAGER's memorial service was held yesterday in Marietta, Ga., and color in "brilliant, eye-searing, joyful combinations" was the "order of the day," according to Jay Busbee of YAHOO SPORTS. Sager had "requested that attendees at his memorial wear their most colorful clothes, a tribute to his own beloved garish wardrobe." Mourners "complied, wearing everything from polka-dotted jackets to rainbow-checked Vans, color-spattered ties and slacks" to Cubs baseball caps (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 12/20). USA TODAY's Ray Glier notes TNT's CHARLES BARKLEY wore a bright red shirt, ERNIE JOHNSON "wore multi-colored shoes" and REGGIE MILLER "wore a light purple jacket." NBA Commissioner ADAM SILVER "wore a dark suit." Most of the rest of the crowd was "fit for an art gallery, or grand opening of a circus, or dance by the beach." Pastor RANDY MICKLER was not "officiating a funeral; he was more Master of Ceremonies." He also "wore a purplish jacket" (USA TODAY, 12/21). The AP noted Spurs coach GREGG POPOVICH attended the ceremony, while Grammy winner YOLANDA ADAMS "sang two songs" (AP, 12/20). In San Antonio, Tom Orsborn notes Popovich flew to Georgia early yesterday morning to attend the memorial service and "returned to Houston in the afternoon" in time for last night's Spurs-Rockets game (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 12/21).
