Green Movement: Industry Leaders Develop International Sport & Sustainability Int'l Group

A global initiative to use the influence of sport to protect the environment has led to the creation of Sport & Sustainability Int'l, a group of sports industry sustainability leaders focused on addressing climate change and a diversity of other issues. The establishment of SSI is the result of a meeting last month of the world's top sports industry sustainability experts in Lausanne, Switzerland. In all, 48 reps from European and international sports organizations and businesses participated in the SSI Foundational meeting, including the IOC, UEFA, NBA and NHL. SSI will collaborate with sports federations, leagues, teams, events, venues, governments, athletes and fans. Among the goals are to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels and promote the use of renewable energy, promote fair trade in the sports industry's supply chain and foster healthy communities. SandSI will be headquartered in Switzerland (SSI).
