Devils May Care: Arizona State Reins In Alternate Uniforms With New Protocols

Arizona State Univ. this week announced new protocols for uniform approval, including that they "should primarily be maroon and gold," according to Doug Haller of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Since adopting the Pitchfork logo in '11, ASU has "introduced several uniform combinations, particularly with football." Most were a "hit on social media, but a growing percentage of fans thought the Sun Devils needed to stick with traditional maroon and gold." For this year's Territorial Cup rivalry football game with Arizona, ASU "wore a combination that featured a gray helmet and pants, white jersey and copper accents in the pitchfork and stripe markings." Other guidelines include that black uniforms are "permitted but should be accented with maroon and gold." Also, the use of copper "should be limited to an accent color." Finally, individual sports can "have unique uniforms for awareness of charitable causes such as Breast Cancer Awareness or Salute to Service" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 12/14).
