Overnight Ratings: MLS Cup Final Sees Gains As Event Returns To Broadcast TV

Fox on Saturday night drew a 1.0 overnight rating for the MLS Cup finale, which saw the Sounders defeat Toronto FC in penalty kicks. This year’s game, which returned to broadcast TV for the first time since ’08, is tied with ’07, ’05 and ’02 (all on ABC) as the best MLS Cup finale overnight since ’01. The 1.0 rating is up from a 0.4 overnight for Timbers-Crew last year, which aired on a Sunday afternoon on ESPN opposite NFL action. Seattle-Tacoma led all markets on Saturday night with a 9.9 local rating, followed by Portland and Baltimore with a 1.5. Toronto is not a Nielsen-rated market.

The chart below lists overnight ratings from weekend sports telecasts on broadcast TV.
