Oculus Touch Controllers Allow For New Experience With VR Sports Challenge

VR Sports Challenge launched Tuesday with the release of the new Oculus Touch controllers for the Oculus Rift headset. The experience developed by Sanzaru Games allows players to be in the middle of the action of four of the most popular American sports: football, basketball, baseball and hockey.

Fans can live out their dreams of being professional athletes in virtual reality. Users get to gear up and hit the field, court and ice rink.

“Think about this… in the world we live in there are only 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL, 30 starting goalies in the NHL, and somewhere around 30 last-shot taking superstars in the NBA,” Sanzaru Games creative director Tin Guerrero told GeForce. “In the VR Sports Challenge world you have the amazing opportunity to experience what it’s like to be one of these elite alpha athletes during the crunch time of a game.”

When it comes to the sports being played, there are things available like basketball 3-point shootouts, hockey fights and a baseball home run derby.

But during the actual games you can play multiple roles. In football, you can act as the quarterback as well as the receiver. In basketball you play as multiple players as the ball is passed around. In hockey, you are the goalie or scoring goals.

In each different role, you use the touch controllers in a different way.

VR Sports Challenge comes bundled with those who pre-ordered Oculus Touch, or it’s available for $29.99.
