In N.Y., Michael Powell profiles Mets CF CURTIS GRANDERSON, who along with help from the Mets and others has "raised well over a million dollars to support youth education and sports." Granderson "gives away turkeys while riding in the back of trucks and hopes to raise a million dollars for the Food Bank for New York City." Additionally, every home run he hits "translates into money." Granderson has "won a bundle of public service prizes, including baseball’s prestigious Roberto Clemente Award, and he poured every needed cent into his Grand Kids Foundation, which supported the youth program at his alma mater," the Univ. of Illinois-Chicago. The foundation has "no staff member or expenses," so every dollar "goes to the programs" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/29). 

NEXT MAN UP: The Univ. of Houston will use North Carolina-based search firm Collegiate Sports Associates to "assist in finding a replacement" for football coach TOM HERMAN, who accepted the Texas job this past weekend. In its release on Saturday, UH "directed all interested candidates" to CSA Founder & President TODD TURNER. CSA "lists its recent football coaching searches" at Akron (TERRY BOWDEN), Boston College (STEVE ADDAZIO), East Carolina (SCOTTIE MONTGOMERY), New Mexico (BOB DAVIE) and SMU (CHAD MORRIS) (CHRON.com, 11/28). 

BACK IN THE RING: Former Golden Boy Promotions CEO RICHARD SCHAEFER "could not promote" after resigning from the company "because a non-compete clause was part of a settlement with Golden Boy, so he started a residential real estate company." Now he is back to promoting boxing, having "recently founded Ringstar Sports." Schaefer: "I would hope that within 12 months that people will look at Ringstar as one of the top promoters in the world.” Schaefer has two fighters "signed under his banner -- brothers CARLOS BALDERAS and JOSE BALDERAS." Carlos Balderas "boxed for Team USA in the Rio Games." Schaefer: "My goal is to build up an entity which will eventually be bigger than what I have built up before and be more of a presence" (Long Beach PRESS-TELEGRAM, 11/26). 

NAMES: NASCAR driver CLINT BOWYER is suing HScott Motorsports for at least $2.223M, “alleging it missed two monthly payments and a commission for bringing sponsorship to the team.” Bowyer, through his business arm, Clint Bowyer Racing, “filed the lawsuit for breach of contract and fraud against” team Owner HARRY SCOTT and HScott Motorsports on Nov. 21 in North Carolina Superior Court. Bowyer alleges in the lawsuit that Scott, who is “expected to shut down the Cup team, is using money owed to Bowyer to pay other creditors and ‘repeatedly failed to make the scheduled payments’ owed on the 20th of each month” (ESPN.com, 11/28)....BROADCASTING & CABLE named Fox Sports President & COO ERIC SHANKS, WME-IMG co-Presidents MARK SHAPIRO and IORIS FRANCINI and NBA Commissioner ADAM SILVER as its Sports Execs of the Year (BROADCASTING & CABLE, 11/28 issue).
