Greg Biffle Officially Leaves Roush Fenway After 14 Years In No. 16 Cup Series Entry

Roush Fenway Racing formally announced that longtime driver Greg Biffle is departing the organization. Biffle has driven RFR’s No. 16 Ford in the Sprint Cup Series since ’03 and finished as the runner-up in ‘05 for the Cup championship. However, Biffle has not won a race in three seasons. He has not announced his next move, but reports have linked him with the one-car JTG Daugherty team. Sources said JTG is considering adding a second Kroger-sponsored car, so Biffle could fill that hole if the moves come to fruition. The move, combined with the loss of key sponsor Cheez-It, leaves the No. 16 in limbo. RFR may be forced to drop the car and become a two-car operation -- a move that would see the team sell or lease that car’s charter (Adam Stern, Staff Writer). FOXSPORTS.com's Joe Menzer reported it is unclear if the 46-year-old Biffle "will be retiring" as a Cup driver or will attempt to "land a ride with another organization." Last month, he "hinted that he might retire when his contract was up with RFR." Biffle took to Twitter yesterday and stated that his departure from RFR had "been in the works for 'many months.'" He added that he "may explore possible opportunities in radio and television 'both inside and outside of NASCAR,' but did not elaborate" (FOXSPORTS.com, 11/21).
