Kaepernick Details Plans For $1M Donation To Charities Over Racial, Social Injustice

49ers QB Colin Kaepernick in September vowed to donate $1M to charities to "tackle social and racial injustice" amid his National Anthem protest, and on Friday he "rolled out plans for his million-dollar giveaway," according to Scott Ostler of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Kaepernick on his website, Kaepernick7.com, "detailed how the first $200,000 is being allotted." He will "donate $100,000 per month for 10 months -- $25,000 each to 40 charities or organizations" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 11/19). In Sacramento, Matt Barrows noted many of the charities Kaepernick has chosen "focus on law enforcement issues in their communities." In addition to his donations, Kaepernick "held a 'Know Your Rights' seminar for young people in Oakland during his team’s bye week that addressed police brutality and gave advice on education, finances, health and fitness" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 11/19). ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner noted Kaepernick had previously "wanted to wait to reveal details and plans for his donations because he wanted to be certain the money was going to the right places and would be put toward the goals he wants to achieve" (ESPN.com, 11/18).
