Bill Simmons Signs Off Of HBO Show, Makes Light Of Program's Quick Demise

The final episode of Bill Simmons' show "Any Given Wednesday" aired last night on HBO, and references to the show's demise were made throughout. Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla were guests on the show, and Simmons said, "We‘re going out with two of my good friends." Kimmel seemed surprised and asked, “What do you mean final episode?” Simmons: “This is it, we're done.” Kimmel said, “Already it's over? Can I have all of this stuff (on the set)?” Simmons: “I’m going to give you at least one of the posters.” Kimmel later said, “Remember we talked about the fact that your show was going to be on Wednesday and what a great idea that was?” Simmons: “You hated that title.” Kimmel read a list of programs “Any Given Wednesday” went head-to-head against, including Olympic swimming, the ESPYs, the season premiere and finale of “Mr. Robot,” the third nights of the RNC (Simmons: “That was bad”) and DNC, the season premiere of "American Horror Story,” the season premiere of “Empire” and MLB playoff games, including World Series Game 7. Kimmel: “Very well done. You could argue it all you want, God doesn't want you to be on television.” Simmons: “Especially on Wednesday nights” (“Any Given Wednesday,” HBO, 11/9).
