Sports Business Execs Share Their TCS N.Y. Marathon Experiences

Sports business execs are always well represented among the finishers of the TCS N.Y. Marathon, and this year was no exception. We would like to congratulate readers of THE DAILY who achieved this incredible feat. Below are some of their finish times, along with the personal experiences of those who participated:

MLB Dir of Market Research Marc Beck
MLB Dir of Market Research Marc Beck (3:59:24) -- Sunday was my second time running the N.Y. Marathon and I still can't believe I beat 4 hours, a PR by 19 minutes from '15. After realizing late in the race I still had a slim shot to beat 4 hours I got a fiery pep talk from a training buddy as she ran three blocks with me at Mile 22. I crossed the line and burst into tears when the NYRR alert came across my phone with the time. Quite the week: I got to write about 40 million watching a baseball game and ran a sub-4 Marathon. I couldn't be happier!

U.S. Open Tennis Championships Senior Manager of Client Services Michael Bozzo, Jr. (4:05:08) -- I completed my third TCS N.Y. Marathon in a row. My time was a new personal record, over 7 minutes faster than last year, but short of my sub-four-hour goal. The event is everything that is right about the city and makes me proud to be a New Yorker! I met and spoke with runners from all over the world and in every borough received recognition just for my running singlet representing the Queens Distance Runners.

Roush Fenway Racing Senior VP/Sales Brian Cleek (4:43:19) -- I ran the Marathon with my wife, Jennifer. It was an awesome day as we ran the 26.2 step in step and finished at 4 hours 43 minutes, although my wife did get an extra kick at the end to beat me by a second. Not surprised.

VeloNews Magazine Exec Editor Fred Dreier (3:08:21) -- In years past, I spent Marathon day reporting on the NYRR's partner activation for SBJ, and one year I even shadowed race director Peter Ciaccia for a Day in the Life feature. I was always secretly envious of the runners. This year the stars aligned, and I was able to run. I'll always remember crossing the finish line in Central Park, only to be greeted by NYRR co-President Peter Ciaccia himself. It was a special moment.

Univ. of Oregon's Craig Leon
Univ. of Oregon Warsaw Sports Marketing Center MBA Program Manager Craig Leon (2:17:14) -- Nothing can really compare to leading 51,000+ people across the Verrazano-Narrows bridge. I’d like to thank NYRR, and co-presidents Michael Capiraso and Peter Ciaccia, for their commitment to professional athletes -- everything they do is first class and they bring out the best in us. What a great weekend in NYC!

PGA Tour VP/Business Development Chris Marciani (3:39:22) -- The weather was perfect and I had a blast!  Thankful that I was injury free during my training and got to celebrate the race with my family in the city. Lou, Sandi, Todd, Justin, Lucy, Valentina, Matteo, Nate, Jack, and Steph -- thank you for the support. Love you guys.

NHL Manager of Partnership Marketing Patrick Ryan (2:54:38) -- I ran in honor of my father, Michael Patrick Ryan, who passed about from Lung Cancer in July '13. I dedicated my summer and fall to training for my third, N.Y. Marathon and raised money for Run As One, a joint fundraising effort between the Thomas G. Labrecque Foundation and LUNGevity; non-profit organizations dedicated to preventing lung cancer through research and awareness. They were great organizations to run for, and I couldn't be more proud to have done it and achieve a PR along the way.  My wife, Ashley, was my biggest supporter and fan. I had a great running coach, Kelly Wissolik from Energy Fitness Coaching, training me, and without that help and the support of all my friends and family, it wouldn't have been possible.
