No Fairweather Johnson: Musician Darius Rucker Joins MGC Sports As Partner

Musician Darius Rucker has become a partner of MGC Sports, which "represents golfers, football players and coaches," according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. Rucker was brought on board by Alan Bullington, who had "recently merged his sports agency, One Degree Management, with MGC, a law firm that has offices in the Southeast." Rucker said, "If I didn't see Jay Z crushing it in the business like he is, I probably wouldn't have done it. But I think I have a lot to offer." Rovell noted MGC currently reps several golfers, including Ben Crane, Steve Stricker and Kenny Perry. However, it will be "harder to score football clients," as Rucker is not a licensed NFLPA agent. He will only be "able to meet with a prospective client in an office on the subject of marketing." But Rucker said that the agency is "positioned to do well in football," claiming that it can "do well signing third- and fourth-round talent." Rucker: "I'm going to be really involved. I will be one phone call away if a client needs some advice or needs me to be at their game" (ESPN.com, 11/7).
