Wake Forest To Play '20 Home Game Against Notre Dame At Bank Of America Stadium

Wake Forest AD Ron Wellman yesterday announced that the school will play its scheduled home game against Notre Dame in '20 at Bank of America Stadium, marking the first time WFU will "play a home game outside of Winston-Salem" since '96, according to Dan Collins of the WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL. Wellman said that one consideration for the move was because WFU "has seven home games on its schedule." Another reason was to "help build the university's following in Charlotte." Wellman said, "We have a lot of alums in Charlotte. Wake Forest has more of a presence in Charlotte than we've ever had before. We have a downtown campus in Charlotte that has a lot of classes there." He added, "It's close enough for all our fans to get to from Winston-Salem. It will be close enough for our students to get to. It's a new experience for our players, playing in an NFL stadium during the season, rather than just in a bowl." Wellman said that reps from the Charlotte Sports Foundation "approached Wake Forest with the idea of moving a home game to Charlotte." He added that WFU's game against Notre Dame in '20 will "not be included in the season-ticket package, but that season-ticket holders will get the first opportunity to purchase tickets" (JOURNALNOW.com, 11/2). In Charlotte, Katherine Peralta notes Bank of America Stadium has "become a regular venue for college football games in recent years," having hosted regular season games with teams such as North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. It also hosts the Belk Bowl (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 11/3).
