Timbers Owner Merritt Paulson Details Expanded Seating Plan For Providence Park

Timbers Owner Merritt Paulson is "'cautiously optimistic' about a stadium expansion plan that would add 4,000 seats to Providence Park," according to Jamie Goldberg of the Portland OREGONIAN. The Timbers, who are "committed to remaining in their downtown location at Providence Park, have been looking at ways to expand seat capacity for over a year." Paulson said that the club is "looking to add all the new seats to the east side of Providence Park." He added that the nearly $50M plan would be "privately funded and bring the stadium capacity up to about 25,000." The club has been "working with Allied Works Architecture to explore the feasibility of the plan." If the Timbers are able to move forward with the plan, Paulson said that the club "would aim to complete the new construction in two phases in back-to-back offseasons." He said, "There's a plan that looks to work there and work well for a site that's pretty compact" (Portland OREGONIAN, 11/1).
