Potential MLS Stadium Site Emerges In St. Louis As City Secures Option To Buy 30 Acres

Another potential MLS stadium site is "emerging in downtown St. Louis," according to Mike Faulk of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. The city has "secured the option to possibly purchase 30 acres owned by the state Department of Transportation." The city has "spoken with potential MLS team ownership groups about the site." St. Louis Land Clearance & Redevelopment Authority Exec Dir Otis Williams, on Thursday, said, "There may be other potential uses as well.” The city has "two years to negotiate a purchase," and no current "estimates of the property’s value were available." MLS Exec VP/Communications Dan Courtemanche said downtown stadiums have been "extremely successful." However, he "didn't go so far as to say the league would demand a St. Louis stadium be downtown." Courtemanche: "These venues are very attractive to the millennial audience and serve as a destination for soccer fans in places like Portland, Seattle, Toronto and Houston" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 10/28).
