NFL Giants Brass, Players Hold Meeting With U.S. Senator To Talk improving Race Relations

NFL Giants coach Ben McAdoo, Senior VP & GM Jerry Reese, other members of the front office and about 25 players yesterday discussed "improving race relations" in the U.S. with Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), according to Bill Pennington of the N.Y. TIMES. The meeting lasted more than an hour and was a "spirited discourse and exchange of ideas, with the players often driving the dialogue." Booker said, "They have a lot of power and a powerful sense of responsibility not to be silent in all of this.” Giants RB Rashad Jennings, who invited Booker, has "led much of the team’s internal discussion on the subject." Jennings said, “We wanted somebody who can educate us and point us in the right direction in terms of the possibilities for us. We wanted to know the various things we could do.” Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality CEO Jocelyn Benson, the moderator for the discussion, said, "Every single player was engaged in the conversation for the entire hour." Jennings said that he "hoped the Giants had provided a model for other teams to follow" (N.Y. TIMES, 10/13).
