MLB Franchise Notes: D-Backs Reportedly Interested In Nationals' Mike Rizzo

ESPN.com’s Jim Bowden cited a source as saying that Nationals GM Mike Rizzo is “at the top” of D-backs ownership’s list to “be their next President of Baseball Operations and plan on asking permission from the Nationals at the conclusion” of their postseason (ESPN.com, 10/10).

TIP OF THE CAP: In Miami, Barry Jackson wrote it was a “classy move by the Marlins to cover all expenses” for P Jose Fernandez’ funeral and his cremation. The Marlins also “gave a donation to the church where the funeral was held” (MIAMIHERALD.com, 10/10).

MORE CHANGE NEEDED: In Chicago, Bernie Lincicome wrote under the header, “Manager Changes For White Sox, But Fundamental Problems Remain.” The White Sox last week named Rick Renteria as their new manager, and the “truth is, the Sox are not that bad a team.” But as long as Chair Jerry Reinsdorf “indulges the earwigs who make the vital choices for the Sox,” Exec VP Kenny Williams and Senior VP & GM Rick Hahn, “nothing will change” (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/8).
