ESPN Uses First "MNF" Visit To U.S. Bank Stadium To Showcase Venue's Top Features

The Vikings' new U.S. Bank Stadium "defies description," according to ESPN's Sean McDonough, who noted the venue is "absolutely amazing." Last night's "MNF" game marked the first time ESPN had televised an event at the stadium, and the broadcast offered an overview of some of the features at the facility. McDonough noted “nearly 40 local artists were commissioned to contribute to the extensive collection at the stadium ("MNF," ESPN, 10/3). ESPN’s Suzy Kolber said at 30 stories tall, U.S. Bank Stadium is "two times larger than the Metrodome." It also has the "largest clear roof of its kind" and five of the "largest pivoting doors in the world -- 95 feet tall." The seats also are "closer to the field than any other NFL stadium” (“Monday Night Countdown,” ESPN, 10/3). In N.Y., Pat Leonard notes as loud as Vikings players "find their game day experience," the design of the stadium's unique roof "actually redirects more of the noise directly at the visiting team's sideline." Louder decibels for the visitors is "quite an interesting dynamic for the Vikings themselves to admit." Vikings VP/Public Affairs & Stadium Development Lester Bagley said the roof is "acoustically reflective." Leonard notes the roof is "angled for practical snow-removal reasons" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/4).
