Men In Blazers: Under Armour, UAB Officially Announce Seven-Year Apparel Contract

Under Armour on Thursday announced a new "seven-year outfitter contract" with UAB worth $50,000 annually, according to Melissa Brown of the BIRMINGHAM BUSINESS JOURNAL. The deal "officially began on June 1 of this year," and UAB athletes and employees "began wearing Under Armour apparel in July." In addition to the annual rights fee, UAB will receive a $1.075M "product allowance" for the '16-17 school year. The annual allowance "will decrease" to $1M for the '18 and '19 school years before increasing again, ending at $1.03M for the '22 school year. UA will "design a unique football uniform and sideline products to commemorate the return of the program next fall." The deal also "stipulates bonuses linked to post-season tournament eligibility and performance" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/29). In Birmingham, Drew Champlin notes UA will "have right of exclusive renewal negotiations until Oct. 1, 2022 (or Oct. 1, 2025 if contract is extended) and will have the right to match any third party offer submitted between the exclusive negotiation end date and contract end date (May 31, 2023, or May 31, 2026, if contract is extended)" (BIRMINGHAM NEWS, 9/30).
