Jazz Unveil Renderings, Plans For $110M Renovation Of Vivint Smart Home Arena

The Jazz yesterday unveiled "renderings and plans" for a $110M remodel of Vivint Smart Home Arena and officials promised the makeover would "give the quarter-century old building new life," according to Aaron Falk of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. The renovation includes "planned upgrades on all six levels" and includes the "addition of a 12,000 square-foot atrium to help fans get out of the elements as they move through security, new suites and lounges for fans, and a revamped locker room and other amenities aimed at attracting and keeping players." The Larry H. Miller Group, which is the holding company for the team, has already "started work on some projects, including adding solar panels to the arena's roof." However, fans "won't see the biggest changes until after the end of the upcoming season." Inside the arena, plans call for the four corners of the upper bowl to be "opened to create a space where fans can gather or seek concessions without having to miss out on game action." The renovation will also include "new and redesigned suites and club lounges, and reworked concourses to improve fan circulation." Also, "new restaurants, concession and souvenir options will be available." New seats will be put in the arena -- "no word if they will remain green -- and the stadium's 19,911 capacity will be reduced slightly as a result of the changes." Colorado-based Icon Venue Group will "help manage the project" and Utah-based Layton Construction will "serve as the general contractor." The Miller family has said that it will "foot the entirety of the project's upfront cost" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 9/22). SCI Architects Principal Murray Beynon said that the indoor atrium will be the "go-to meeting place with game night entertainment and the Jazz Team Store," while the plaza will "feature a video board for outside watching parties and a new marquee that will feature a covered stage with full-circle graphic capabilities" (DESERET NEWS, 9/22).
