Warriors Promote Several Execs, With Bob Myers Adding President Of Basketball Ops Title

The Warriors yesterday announced several promotions, including BOB MYERS to President of Basketball Operations & GM, TRAVIS SCHLENK to VP/Basketball Operations & Assistant GM, KIRK LACOB to VP/GSW Sports Ventures & Assistant GM, LARRY HARRIS to Dir of Player Personnel & Assistant GM, NICK U'REN to Dir of Coaching Operations & Special Assistant to the head coach, JONNIE WEST to Dir of Player Programs and NANEA MCGUIGAN to Dir of Basketball Administration & Player Programs (Warriors). In S.F., Connor Letourneau noted as Myers in his new role will "oversee the entire day-to-day happenings of the basketball-operations department and report directly" to Warriors co-Owner JOE LACOB. Myers, the "architect behind perhaps the most loaded roster in NBA history," was named the '14-15 NBA Exec of the Year for "constructing a team that won a then-franchise-record 67 regular-season games and an NBA title." Schlenk will "assist in the management of all day-to-day basketball operations -- including all player-related matters." Kirk Lacob will be in "charge of the franchise's new sports ventures -- including ongoing efforts to develop partnerships for basketball operations" (SFGATE.com, 9/20).

LINING THINGS UP: In San Jose, Tim Kawakami notes Myers not only received a promotion, but a source confirmed that his "contract has been extended" past the '17-18 season, when his "last extension was set to expire." Another source indicated that Myers is "believed to have received a substantial pay raise with the extension, presumably into the top echelon" of NBA exec salaries. The exact length and terms of the extension is "not known." If Myers' deal was extended one season, to '18-19, his contract "would be synced up with" coach STEVE KERR's original five-year deal. If the deal was extended two seasons, to '19-20, his contract "would be synced up with the expected opening" of the Warriors' new S.F. arena. Meanwhile, the contract for Warriors Exec Board Member JERRY WEST is "due to expire after this coming season," but the team and West are believed to have "every intention to continue his role for several more years" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 9/21).
